Winter League

2019-20 Season

Remember a few years back, when your kiddo took their first amazing, wobbly steps?  It took a lot of falling to learn how to walk. But you knew they would eventually do it.  You just knew they were made to get up and go – what a good thing!

So this year’s theme, BUILT FOR THIS, centers around the idea that God built your kids to do good things in life – and Halo basketball is great training ground.

True to life, they’ll face frustrations and disappointments.  Things won’t go their way at some point.  Guaranteed.

Now that’s where being part of a Halo team pays off.  Kids learn that they’re part of something bigger than themselves.  They learn where they fit in and how they can give to the team – whether it’s by setting screens or pulling down rebounds, nailing shots or playing tough defense.

It’s all good, as the saying goes.  Your kids are BUILT FOR THIS!

The Halo Winter League offers a season of exciting games for 5- to 18 -year -olds from December through February.  With 2200 players and more than 250 teams playing, you don’t want to miss Wilmington’s most popular Youth Basketball League!

Our Coaches

Halo coaches are the best!  They’re enthusiastic people who love volunteering their time and energy.  We provide training and resources for them to lead their teams well all season long.  Most Halo coaches are parents whose kid begged them to coach!  Just fill out the online application and let the fun begin.

Our Teams

Halo teams are custom-built with young players in mind.  We work hard to help players join with their friends and meet new ones. When you register your child, they’re placed on a team according to your requests (we do our best to honor your requests). If you don’t have any requests, we place them on a team that needs players or by your school/home location.

Practices

Halo practices are packed with instruction and fun!  One weekly practice is included in the fee for the 5-to 9-year-old teams.  The 5-year-olds practice for 30 minutes prior to their game on Saturday.  All other teams practice during the week.  Coaches select their practice time and location on a first-come, first-served basis from a variety of gyms around Wilmington.
The 10-to 18-year-old teams are responsible for securing and paying for their own practices.  Many teams enlist the help of a team sponsor to cover the cost of their practices.  If needed, we offer a discounted rental at available Halo gyms.

Games

The atmosphere at Halo games is how youth sports is meant to be! Players and their families are encouraged to be competitive and keep perspective.  Our games are run by the Halo Rules, designed especially for young players to grow with the game.  And, of course, every player gets time on the court in every game.
